PUTRAJAYA, March 4 – Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad may have a bit to learn about FIT Touch, but he is happy that Malaysia will host this major event.

Malaysia has been given the right to host the 9th edition of the FIT Touch World Cup for the first time scheduled from April 29 to May 4 at the Putrajaya Equestrian Park (TEP).

FIT Touch is played officially in 47 member countries and in many more nations that have not yet joined the world group. It is the highest honour for Malaysia to host this prestigious international event, even though FIT Touch is still a relatively new sport in Malaysia.

A total of 2,400 participants representing 26 countries will be working hard over 6 days of competition, their mission to pursue the title of World Champions.

Federation of International Touch (FIT) President Erick Acker, who has been in the capital since Friday, has paid a courtesy call on Tun Dr Mahathir at his office to give an explanation of Malaysia’s preparations for the major event.

At the meeting, Erick was accompanied by Chairman of the Joint Organising Committee FIT Touch World Cup 2019, Bryan O’Connor and Head of Secre

tariat FIT Touch World Cup 2019, Ahmad Sufiani Johari. During the meeting, Tun Dr Mahathir was briefed on the preparations made by Malaysia involving the fields, communications, hospitality, traffic and also the nations that will compete.

Interestingly, Tun Dr Mahathir who was initially unaware of this unique ‘run, catch & pass’ sport, presented several questions to Erick to gain greater knowledge of the rapidly growing sport. His desire to know more about the sport of FIT Touch, has inspired FIT Touch Malaysia (the national administration here) to make sure that the 2019 World Cup will be a wonderful moment for all participating teams, showcasing Malaysia as an international sports destination.

At the end of the meeting, Erick invited Tun Dr Mahathir to honour the event with his presence at the opening ceremony if his hectic schedule allowed.

He also expressed his joy that Malaysia was chosen to host this major international sports event.

“I am excited that Tun Dr Mahathir has responded positively to the FIT Touch World Cup, and this has inspired all involved in the event planning and development to ensure that this World Cup will achieve the highest standards and make Malaysians proud” Erick explains.

Tourism professionals have quoted that this major international sports tourism event that is attracting participants and supporters from high spending nations including the UK, Europe and Australia will generate more than RM50 million for the Malaysian economy.
